IS GYMNASTICS FOR YOUR CHILD?
Research data persistently point to the fact
that children in our society do not get enough exercise, a reality that
results in a preponderance of unfit, overweight children who will
become unfit, overweight adults.
Gymnastics and related activities provide an excellent movement
foundation for all children. Tumbling develops muscular strength
and flexibility. The balance beam develops foot and eye
coordination, and balance. Bar work builds upper body strength,
and vaulting develops speed and power. The trampoline, when used
safely, develops cardiovascular endurance, balance and spatial
awareness. Of course, all of these activities develop
muscular coordination.
As children become older, or if their training is competitive
in nature, the value of gymnastics training expands to include the
development of self-control, concentration, perseverance, self
discipline and courage.
Gymnastics for children is perhaps one of the areas where there
is great potential for not only the development of many physical
attributes - muscular strength, flexibility, grace, poise aesthetic and
powerful movement - but, emotional factors as well. The challenge
of performing and the self-discipline, time and effort it takes to
perfect gymnastics skills and routines teach children many lessons,
such as:
*The value and rewards of hard work
*The thrill of accomplishment
*The need for self-confidence
*The joy of increased self-esteem
*The control of fear
*The development of courage
*The need for self-control
Parents report that gymnastics has improved their child's
academic performance. Certainly being tenacious, focused, having
the ability to concentrate and self discipline are prerequisites to
being successful at gymnastics as well as in the classroom.

PARENT INFORMATION
All children are faced with situations that may
be very different from what you faced as a child. Society has
changed, the educational system has changed and the family structure
may have changed. The young people of today have a much faster paced
world to deal with. Parenting now is more difficult than just 10
years ago. Pressures on young people today are greater now then
ever before. Parents of today need to recognize these pressures
and deal with them effectively, if they don't, there may be difficulties
during the teenage years. All parents experience trying
times in the teenage years, but what we need to do is make sure that
the confused young teenagers survive the 13-17 year period.
Consequently, it is more and more important to offer young
children positive learning situations outside the home. With the
family becoming more extended as both the mother and father work in
many families, the positive after school programs become even more
essential. By enrolling your child in an activity such as gymnastics,
you are giving them the opportunities necessary to handle the pressures
of the times. The lessons learned in sports such as gymnastics
will help them face the many situations of their young adult lives with
the tools to make the proper decisions.
Gymnastics Cityis teaching much more than forward
rolls. We are teaching that hard work brings
accomplishment. We are teaching that there are others out there
who are available to help in the quest of achievement. There is so
much more going on. Our staff is made up of professionals who
have been trained and educated to teach the children positive learning
skills. Through education, clinics, workshops, and National
training seminars, these instructors have been taught positive teaching
techniques for your child. They care very much about the job they
are doing and the children they are working with.
At Gymnastics City, the instructors are promoting the security
and safety of discipline. Not a negative, drill sergeant type of
discipline, but a positive, (it is necessary to understand and abide by
the rule's) type of discipline. A discipline that
will be shown to help development and achievement. A positive
discipline sometimes needed in this type of society in which we
live today. We offer structure. The students know what to
expect when they walk in the door to the gym. There is security
here. There is structure in the classes. There is safety and
security when you know what the rules are and what the acceptable
behavior is; Structure in the today's world is critical. Too
often there are young people with little if any structure in their
lives. Gymnastics helps create the learning situations that will
make a difference.
